Hurricane Harvey

I last posted before Hurricane Harvey hit our Rockport – Fulton community on Friday August 25th. The only words I can come up with to describe the state of our local area is devastated and heartbroken. There will not be enough time left in my life to see the oaks grow back to anything like they were. Many businesses and homes are forever gone or changed. There are no schools operating, make shift post offices, and very few churches without substantial damage.

The good news is this nasty storm has brought out the best in people both those of us from here and those who came to help.

Harvey has temporarily drained my creative juices but that energy is directed where it is needed – clean up and support for my family and friends. In between I am working on quilts to give to people I know who have lost everything. It is a small thing but everyone doing lots of small things makes a big difference.

Aransas County will rebuild, recover and once again be the warm, welcoming tourist community with the most generous people on earth. In the meantime it can use your prayers.

  1. I am heartbroken reading this post. I can feel your pain in your words. Yes, Rockport will come back and it is because of people like you. Even in your grief for our little town, you are thinking of others by making quilts. You are special and Rockport is better because of you! Love you SusieQ!
